Detroit Lions assign rookie numbers

We finally have some numbers!

The Detroit Lions have finally dropped their rookie numbers for their 2020 NFL draft class. While most players will most likely keep their assigned numbers after the preseason (Assuming they make the roster), there are two that will be forced to change.

The numbers are as follows:

Jeff Okudah – #1

D’Andre Swift – #6

Julian Okwara – #45

Jonah Jackson – #73

Logan Stenberg – #61

Quintez Cephus – #87

Jason Huntley – #41

John Penisini – #91

Jashon Cornell – #96

Quick Thoughts

Seeing Jeff Okudah wearing the #1 jersey in Honolulu blue will be awesome, even if it is just for the preseason. Same goes with Swift and his #6 jersey (1 down from the #7 he wore at Georgia). Per the NFL rules however, they will be forced to change their numbers come the regular season.

Julian Okwara stays in the 40’s as he wore #42 in college. #42 was available as Devon Kennard is no longer on the team, but it seems he is looking for a slight change.

Jonah Jackson & Quintez Cephus keep their numbers from college, while Logan Stenberg goes from #71 at Kentucky to #61.

Penisini and Cornell have longer odds to make the roster, so their numbers could be up for grabs after the preseason, but for now they get standard defensive lineman numbers.
